Londra Diriliş Kilisesi (London Resurrection Church) is a church for Turkish speakers in North London. Most of our members are either from mainland Turkey or Cyprus – but we have others from Azerbaijan as well as Iran. The common link is the Turkish language – and of course, the Christian faith. Most of us would call ourselves Christians, but we often have people who are at the “curious” part of their faith journey with us – and they are just as welcome. Depending on whether we meet in person or virtually via Zoom, we’re anywhere from 15 to 35 people – plus kids. We look forward to drinking tea with you soon.
What’s our story?
Our minister, Engin Yıldırım and his wife have been involved in the leadership of churches for many years in Istanbul, Turkey. They moved to London a few years ago, and Engin became the minister for the English-speaking Anglican congregation in the church building we meet in. But they had a vision to start a congregation meeting the spiritual needs of the large number of Turkish speakers in North London and started Londra Diriliş Kilisesi at Easter in 2018. Through a combination of English classes, celebrating Turkish holidays and Alpha courses, we have gradually grown and formed our own community.
How to join us
We usually meet each Sunday at 2:30pm for about an hour. Every other week we meet in person in the building of St Michael at Bowes, Wood Green at 99 Palmerston Road, Palmers Green N22 8QX (nearest tube Bounds Green). After the service, we enjoy a simple (Turkish) meal together – with plenty of tea! Sometimes the sermon is live-streamed onto Facebook. We also meet on Zoom at the same time (2:30pm) on alternating weeks for more informal bible study. If you want to take part, please get in touch via email or our Facebook page first. Other events include a weekly prayer, weekly meetings for women, a children’s program and a monthly men’s breakfast.
